SWMS & risk assessments

Safe work,
documented
and proven

Every Safe Traffic Management engagement starts with a documented traffic management SWMS and risk assessment. We prepare site-specific Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) and risk assessments that identify the hazards of working on or near live traffic, and set out exactly how each task will be controlled before anyone steps on site.

Built by experienced safety professionals to MUTCD QLD, the TMR Code of Practice, AS 1742 and the WHS Act (Qld), our SWMS give your project team, principal contractor and crews a clear, agreed method of work, and the records to demonstrate due diligence at any time.

The result is fewer surprises, safer shifts, and a compliant paper trail that stands up to client, principal and regulator scrutiny, backed by our wider safety and compliance programme.

What's included

What our SWMS process covers

A structured, repeatable process, from identifying the hazards on your site to recording the controls and reviewing them as the job changes.

Site-specific SWMS

A Safe Work Method Statement written for your site and scope, not a generic template, covering every high-risk task. Each step is broken down with the hazards, controls and responsible person clearly set out, so your crew and principal contractor know exactly how the work will be done safely.

Hazard identification

Systematic identification of the hazards of working on or near live traffic, plant, pedestrians and the public. We account for site-specific factors like sight lines, speed environment, road geometry, weather and night works so nothing is missed before the crew arrives.

Risk assessment

Each hazard assessed for likelihood and consequence so the highest risks are controlled first. We use a consistent risk matrix to rate residual risk after controls are applied, giving you a clear, defensible record of how every decision was reached.

Control measures

Controls selected using the hierarchy of control and aligned to MUTCD QLD, the TMR Code of Practice and AS 1742. From road closures and detours to speed reduction, signage, barriers and spotters, each control is matched to the risk and the approved traffic guidance scheme.

Sign-on & toolbox records

Crews briefed and signed on to the SWMS, with toolbox talks and daily diaries kept as evidence. Pre-start checks, sign-on sheets and any changes on the day are documented so there is a complete, time-stamped record of who was briefed and what was done.

Review & update

SWMS reviewed and updated whenever the site, scope or conditions change, and after any incident. Lessons from near misses and completed jobs feed back into our documents, so your controls keep improving rather than going stale in a folder.
